Meet The Doctors

Dr. Amy Bell

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Amy Bell learned the value of chiropractic care after having several personal experiences with its benefits. She suffered from headaches from a very early age, and it was not until her early 20s that she received her first chiropractic adjustment and started living a life free of headaches. She had just completed her undergraduate studies at the prestigious Miami University in her native state of Ohio. She then decided to further her studies and earn her Doctorate of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from Life University near Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Amy is passionate to serve many different populations and treats every person as an individual instead of a number. No person is the same and her comprehensive skill set allows her to meet the needs of most everyone that walks through her door. As a mother of 2 beautiful girls, Amy has fallen in love with chiropractic care for expectant mothers, also newborn babies and children. As a lifelong athlete and lover of all things sports, she also embraces many opportunities working with athletes of all ages, including high caliber athletes, Iron Man participants, and weekend warriors! Dr. Amy is currently working towards earning her Diplomat in Pediatric and Prenatal care and is already certified in The Webster Technique.

Additionally, Dr. Amy offers the following techniques: Full Spine Diversified, Thompson drop, Flexion/ Distraction, Activator and SOT. She believes that each person can achieve a higher level of health and wellness and a better quality of life while under regular, specific chiropractic care.

Dr. Brittni Harlow

Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Brittni Harlow, a native of Lincoln, KS, developed an interest in the human body early on due to multiple sports injuries throughout her teenage years. After seeing her first chiropractor at the age of 13, her curiosity for understanding the intricacies and versatility of the human body was sparked.

At times, her dream of becoming a chiropractor became clouded by the misconception that women didn’t belong in the profession, fortunately that did not stop her. She continued her education at McPherson College in Kansas, where she studied Heath Sciences and played basketball for 4 years. Outside of school and basketball, she worked as a personal trainer where the mechanics of the human body became even more interesting to her.

Following graduation from McPherson College in 2020, she moved to Kansas City to further her education at Cleveland University-Kansas City where she graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic with honors in December of 2023. During her time at CUKC, she studied specialized coursework in techniques such as Thompson Drop Technique, Flexion-Distraction, Advanced Diversified, ICPA Webster Technique, and Dry Needling.

Dr. Brittni’s approach to patient care is centered around being proactive and creating personalized care plans based on each patient’s individualized needs.

During her free time, Dr. Brittni enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their 2 dogs, working out, reading, and occasionally binging a few seasons of Friends.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe. However, there is a small chance that you may develop complications after chiropractic care. These complications include increased pain, increased herniation, and stroke.

However, these risks are minimal when compared with those of other medical treatments, including prescription drugs and surgical procedures. Each year, millions of patients are hospitalized after experiencing adverse reactions to prescription medications. If you've ever undergone a surgical procedure, you may remember signing a waiver agreeing you understand the procedure has numerous risks, including permanent disability or death. These waivers aren't just an unnecessary precaution, as more than 250,000 people die from medical errors each year. In comparison, the risk of injury or complications during Chiropractic care is far less of a concern.

How Does Chiropractic Care Help with Pain Relief?

Chiropractic adjustment focuses on diagnosing and treating various disorders in the musculoskeletal system. It includes issues with your spine, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and nerves, typically caused by mechanical problems stemming from poor posture and injury. Chiropractors use various techniques to gently manipulate the spine and joints to restore proper functioning and decrease pain associated with these disorders.

One of the critical components of chiropractic care is manual manipulation, which aims to ease tension or stiffness in your spinal joints by applying controlled, targeted pressure. This can help improve joint function, restore movement, and reduce pain or other symptoms. Different techniques are used depending on the type of condition or injury being treated.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Children?

Chiropractic adjustments on kids are safe, non-invasive, and use only light and gentle pressure to achieve optimal results. Many parents comment that it looks like just a gentle touch, tickle, or massage. On bigger kids, we can incorporate fun activities into their adjustments, such as jumping.

Can You Receive Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy?

Chiropractic care is generally safe during pregnancy, but it's a good idea to double check with your OB/GYN before scheduling an appointment. Many patients find that chiropractic treatments help alleviate the aches commonly associated with pregnancy.

What Conditions Can Sports Chiropractic Address?

Sports chiropractic is beneficial for athletes of all levels and can address various conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries, joint pain, and biomechanical issues. Through targeted adjustments and rehabilitative exercises, sports chiropractors aim to optimize performance, prevent injuries, and support overall athletic well-being.

Sports chiropractic is helpful for many muscle and bone issues, such as:

1. Sprains and strains

2. Shoulder problems

3. Tennis and golfer’s elbow

4. Runner’s knee

5. Shin splints

6. Ankle and foot injuries

7. Hip and groin pain

8. Back and neck pain

9. Muscle imbalances and problems with how you stand or sit

What Causes the Popping Sound During an Adjustment?

Most patients experience a popping or cracking sound during spinal manipulation. This is not dangerous, and it typically does not cause discomfort for patients. This sound occurs because gas and fluids are moving through your spine. Your body depends on fluids to lubricate the bones between each section of your spinal joints, so it's normal to have this fluid in your skeletal system.

How Do I Know if I Need Chiropractic Care?

A chiropractic adjustment is an effective treatment option for all ages, including both children and adults. The most common age range for someone to seek chiropractic care is between 45 and 64 years old. We will provide you with a screening before your chiropractic adjustment to ensure that you're a good candidate for chiropractic care. Many patients seek chiropractic care for symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue, lack of energy, digestive problems, muscle aches, numbness, and tingling. All of these issues can be addressed with chiropractic care.

Can I Request Chiropractic Care Without a Referral?

We treat patients who do not have referrals from their primary care physicians or other medical providers. In fact, some patients visit us before they see another doctor. However, some insurance providers still require prior authorization for patients. Check with your insurance company before you schedule an appointment.

Are Chiropractic Treatments Painful?

Chiropractic treatments typically aren't painful, though some patients experience minor discomfort after an appointment. We can offer suggestions to decrease discomfort, such as using ice packs or a heating pad at home. You may also find it helpful to perform gentle stretches after your appointment.

That being said, most patients leave with less pain than they had upon arrival. Progress takes time, but you may experience immediate relief after an adjustment or other services. Let us know if you are sensitive to chiropractic care so we can help make your visit more enjoyable.

How Many Visits Does It Take to Get Better?

Some patients only visit us a handful of times. Other patients require weeks or months of consistent care. The amount of time required for your recovery depends on a number of factors, including the severity of your condition and the level of improvement you want. Some patients want their pain to reach a manageable level, while others want to visit us until it disappears completely. Talk to us about your goals so we can develop a treatment plan tailored toward your wishes.
